David, as a committed (or committable.) recluse myself, your poem resonated. I have lived alone in the basement of a 160 year old closed church for a decade. Sometimes not even seeing another human, let alone interacting for weeks at a time. I have no pets but enjoy my flower gardens and all the insects that visit them (and my room)
