she is scarred so deep inside yet she chooses to remain beautiful the gloom of darkness engulfs her yet she dons a mask of brightness the stab of humiliation slices her yet she attempts to bandage her wounds.....a clear-cut picture of a woman is astutely expressed from the beginning. This poem is so significant.

'her worth is beyond measure' - absolutely so, agree hundred per cent. The womb that carries the seed of mankind through the ages, is the safest shelter of mankind; there is no stronger force than the carrier of the womb. Who says a woman is weak? Who else can perform the task that she has been eternally perforrming?

she is a pearl locked in an oyster but unless someone digs it out its lustre will be lost to the world and shall perish in the caverns of the sea Beautiful. Its the smile that adorns her though a forced smile!

Hi, Valsa. I hope she does break free. You make me feel with this poem with and for this woman. I find attractive women who can be cheerful and appreciate humor when I know they’ve had their share, or more than their share, of hardship. Oh that for every woman there would be love to summon the beauty from their shells. I especially like the third stanza. Good one, Valsa. -Glen

2 – i looked up " duplicity" and the definitions are tending towards negatives. " duplicitous adjective deceitful" bri :) where IS my Oyster Shucker? I’ll get her pearl(s) out! ! She doesn’t LOOK like an oyster.

1- if you'd said His Duplicity, i'd have thought you were talkin' 'bout me, ....even though i wonder what the word means: " duplicity" ? ! ! WoW! i 'love' the poem. to MyPoemList. BUT one important question is: What duplicity is she involved in? ? Do you mean she is deceiving others by not showing her true feeling, her true self? ?

An abused woman is forced to live a life a duplicity. When her heart burns inside she flashes a smile as if every thing is OK.Women of poor class who have no means of earning suffer most in domestic violence. But even educated women bear much humiliation in male dominated society, but they keep quiet for the sake of dignity.

Yes, when her heart burns, she flashes a sweet smile! Outwardly everything is OK but there is a blistering wound inside. There are so many such women living among us with silent agony! Rightly observed, Bharati! Thank you.....

Amidst all the ordeals it is amazing how she keeps her cool, keeps that burning determination alive, and the poem tells her side of narration in the last stanza, a brilliant penmanship, sorry that 'man' is not yet removed from this word. Any suggestions?

Usually it is women who suffer in the hands of men! Only through firm determination and a fighting spirit that women can restore their dignity! Thank you Aniruddha sir!

As far as I know most of the women, especially from the middle class are facing this kind of ordeal only...domestic violence has two facets...direct and indirect...verbal abuse is worse...worst is cheating by indirect conspiracy and other ways of harassment abuse...how much a woman is humiliated mentally, we all know....well done Valsa..you have clearly portrayed the theme..God bless you

As you say, verbal abuse is one of the most serious and most common forms of domestic violence! Thank you Indira ji for your enthusiasm in upholding the dignity of women!

A magnificent work, Valsa. The truest oppression arises from circumstances that show abuse to exist in forms that begin to undermine the humanity of the person, the target. Physical abuse will often unmask the oppressor, but psychological abuse will often imprison the victim. This poem goes to myfavourites.

In this poem you have revealed the duplicity of a woman so touchingly. Though she is in the gloom of darkness yet she acts to remain beautiful. She has much good qualities inside her like the pearl in an oyster but these aren't well accepted by others as they are unable to dig out. In fact she is divine and beautiful. We must not neglect her nor behave her like a tiny bug to be swatted at. A fabulous poem is well executed.10 (Report)

Though a woman is treated as inferior and lacking in strength, she has inner worth and unmatched grace which only a few can see. Thank you Kumaramani sir for supporting her cause.

A fabulous poem that touches the core of your heart. A poem that raises a question on the identity of a woman, her strength, and her freedom to retain her individuality. A full score for the pearl locked in an oyster..........10

An excellent poem on an apt concept dear madam! The following lines stand as the kernel of this fabulous work: “I she is a pearl locked in an oyster/but unless someone digs it out/its lustre will be lost to the world/and shall perish in the caverns of the sea’.10/10
