A blank piece of paper.
A song with no rhyme.
A cold unsolved caper.
A victim of crime.
A purse with no money.
A bird with no song.
A pot with no honey.
It's clear something's wrong.
A child with no mother.
A home without love.
A man with no brother.
A hand with no glove.
The old with nobody,
at home all alone,
just hoping somebody
would call on the phone.
A church with no preacher -
at least one with fire.
A class with no teacher,
and no one to hire.
A nation divided.
A world without peace.
With needs unprovided.
When wars never cease.
With eyes struck with blindness
and hearts filled with hate,
with no love or kindness.
Tell me, is it too late?
To bring resolution,
to right all these wrongs,
to give absolution
and give them new songs?
To write words of fire,
to fill that blank page,
to cheer and inspire,
to move and engage?
To give that old tune some
sweet lyrics that fit,
to encourage the lonesome
and sad? Yes, that's it!
To dust off that cold case
and give it your best
to bring one to justice,
whose fate had been missed?
And say to that victim,
now living in strife,
that you finally ‘sticked ‘im'
in prison for life?
To share from our bounty,
from out of our store,
so city and county
could care for their poor?
To choose to show kindness,
to do what is right,
to shatter the blindness
and bring in the light?
To children around us,
let's open our arms,
to make safe and sound as
we keep them from harms.
Let's open our heart
to a brother in need,
and show, for our part,
we're a true friend indeed!
Let's give that old songbird
a bright tune to sing,
that's not been so long heard
on many a wing.
Let's visit our elders,
their company share,
those shut in their shelters,
and show them we care!
Let's look for our preachers
to sharpen their sword -
to challenge and teach us
from God's Holy Word!
And our teachers should win
All the pay that their worth.
The job that they're in's
most important on earth!
There's truth I would speak,
and I would not be wrong -
that divided we're weak
but united we're strong.
It's too much for one man,
no matter how pure.
But I think that we can,
you and I, be the cure.
I ask you to join me.
So, what do you say?
Then maybe, just maybe,
we can start it today!
