Hello old oak! you've shaded my way!
The hot sun has been shining and you have been kind today
You're bark is so gnarled, rough and old
How many summers have you basked in the sun's molten gold?
Hello old oak! you've laid down your leaves now
ground was bare and brown but you've decorated it—and how!
Your leaves are as many as the sprinkled stars
How many autumns have you cared to cheer us so far?
Hello old oak! you've kept the walk so clean!
slipping snow fell last night but you've shaded us from its sheen
How many of us haven't slipped cause of you?
How many winters have you made slipped hurts few?
Hello old oak! your leaves are new and green
Winter t'was harsh but you've renewed yourself with glee!
You're old and yet you are so young now
O! selfless tree, feel young anew—and how!
