I lay in this bed and I haven't got long, but before I go I need to be strong.
I've got to speak with the boy when he gets here today it's not gonna be easy but here's what I'll say.
I'm not leaving you son I'm not going away, I'll be right by your side I'll be here night and day, so where ever you look just pause to think your old grandpa's right here with his smile and his wink.
When I got to the gates I didn't want to go I told of my job that waits down below,
He smiled and he said I know all these things before you go back you're gonna need these here wings.
I got down to school and stood by the gate same time same place I'll never be late. Nobody could see me as they walked on by then the little boy looked straight into my eye, with a smile on his face he walked past this way and in a little whisper I did hear him say.
You didn't leave me pops you didn't go away you've not left me your here night and day, when I pray each night I always will think my grandpas right here with his smile and his wink.
Well he too got old and he came by this way he said thanks pops for not leaving that day.
But I'm afraid I can't stay I don't want you to go but there's a sad little girl awaits me below. I said so follow me son to where the old man awaits.he's waited this long I don't want to be late.
You didn't leave me then you never went away you stayed by my side both night and day I can't leave you now as I stop and think you're still here with your smile and that wink
We stood before the man who looked down with a smile he said I believe you two haven't spoke for a while, so off with you now and don't be late a sad little girl stands by a gate, and you two have lots to debate so go take your time and heaven can wait.
