In a war of vague purpose
We really don't know
What it was for, I suppose.

I relate to your thoughts on the negative side of war, and use of irony. Thanks for writing and sharing.

Yes, he died a hero, no doubt in it terror is an error.

A heartfelt write with a strong message against the casual and apathetic way war is treated in our modern age.

Most of the wars are fought for human greed. The greed has no end and there will be more wars. It is such a sad story. we have learnt nothing though we have lost so many precious lives and families have been destroyed. Very nice poem about reality of wars. Thanks for sharing and Congrats.

A very honest stance within these lines. It gives voice to the families of so many men and women who served their country. Thanks for sharing such a valid point and Congratulations for poem of the day.

One would have to have a heart of stone and a head of oatmeal to find fault with the sentiment expressed here. I like that it doesn't explicitly refer to a particular historical conflict (though I might guess) as it might apply, more or less, to many (most?) in the modern era where the US has been involved. I'd lose the first stanza if it were my poem to do so with. It doesn't add anything for me. In fact, it detracts by reiterating the title and dithering about inconclusiveness before the facts are given. The second stanza draws the reader in looking for more substance and meaning. But that's already been sold short and telegraphed ahead by the preface. Let the finale happen in the concluding stanza.

Yes a senseless vague war with no end leaves every body at loss. Death is the only reality for a soldier.....great poem. Congratulations for a well deserved poem of the day place.

Well put and expressed. War is horrible, and the meaning is often convoluted, yet our soldiers, our sons, go out and fight.

Evil creates wickedness, and so does wickedness creates evil, Satan is behind it all, especially the wars of today's.
