Have To Go Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Have To Go

It's like riding the carousel
Being in love with you.
At first it's fun,
Picking up speed, getting accustom
To the blurred lights. The faces that blend
Into everything.
Experiencing something like this
With someone you love.
One you hope doesn't end too soon.
Sitting close together enjoying a moment
That feels like forever.
Until the momentum begins to slow
& everything returns back
To how it was.
That's how it feels,
Being in love with you.
A moment where time shows us
It's tender side
A side that isn't just a rush of everything
Happening at once.
A practice of patience, standing in line
Experiencing a memory in the hopes
Dementia won't steal.
Life itself a carousel.
When the ride stops hopefully
We can sit a while longer
Take in the sights,
Until all the lights burn out
& we have to go
That's how it feels,
Being in love with you
