If there was a war tribunal for black lives
Then most of the world will be found guilty

For being wrongly deported
For being wrongly fired
For being excluded from certain parts of society
For being forced to play the acceptable black role

Just this poem hurts
As holding oppression in my hand is heavy
My pen is moving slowly, as every letter hurts
Almost like a million mourning souls are on me
Both the living and the dead

Just this poem
Reminds me that, there should be
Hashtag praise for
Insert amazing deeds here
Like being a pioneer in engineering
Abram Petrovich Hannibal (1696-1782)
Like being the first black woman to get a PhD in chemistry
Dr Marie Maynard Daly (1921-2003)

If there was an award ceremony for
Pioneers and trailblazers in history

Black people will win few awards

I am tired of saying justice for
Tired of seeing black skin, intertwined with courtrooms
Rather than on a stage, being cheered by the world for
All the great things it has done
But, I guess we will get the courtroom
Before the stage
As long as we get to the stage, which we will
I will continue saying
