Has Anyone, Anywhere Seen My Pet Spider? Poem by Richard D Remler

Has Anyone, Anywhere Seen My Pet Spider?

.....

I thought Mom wouldn't mind.
I thought she'd understand.
I was careful and clever,
I had everything planned.

I asked Dad twice, or once,
Twelve whole times in a row,
And though I asked nice,
All he said was no.

But I did not listen.
I did not listen a bit.
If they suggested a something,
I wouldn't hear it.

I did what I wanted,
It made sense to me.
It was as grand an idea
As ever it wanted to be!

So, has anyone, anywhere
Seen my pet Spider?
She was really quite clever,
And is such a good hider.

She was safe as a Spider
Can be in a shoe-box,
It was poked full of holes
For an almost brand new box.

With enough air and light
For my Spider inside 'er.
So, has anyone, anywhere
Seen my pet Spider?

I'd only peeked in a moment,
And I didn't stare.
I had to make triply sure
That my Spider was there!

I had to be very sure
That she was every bit secure.
That she hadn't slipped away from me.
It was a little thing I had to see.

But my Spider was gone,
And her Crickets were too,
And now I haven't a clue
What to do!

Her Crickets, oh,
They've been quiet all day.
I'llbet they were sleeping
And sleepwalked away.

But my Spider is oh,
So much smarter than they.
So I'm puzzled, because
Spiders are smarter in May.
And we've been in May
For most of today!

Has anybody seen her?
For I'm sure she's about.
Oh, she's a good hider.
I haven't one doubt.

She could hide in a barrel
Of Wockleworth Cheese,
Filled to the brim
And then covered with peas

Until sometime long after
The after has gone.
And we'd never have known
That she'd packed and moved on.

She could hide in an eyebrow,
Nobody checks those!
Or she could have crawled up
Into Aunt Becky's nose.

She could be hiding in Dads
Special talc for his head!
She could be fitching an itch
In Mom's banana bread!

And Mom's gonna throw
Her a fit, sure as tea
If she ever discovers
What's bothering me.

If she sneaks a quick peek
In my Spider Hotel
And suddenly notices
That things are not well.

Mom's pretty smart.
She's arachnid wise.
She's used to administering
Spider goodbyes.

And my Spider's a gem,
But one heck of a hider.
So, has anyone, anywhere,
Seen my pet Spider?
