Harps And Unicorns Poem by Mark Heathcote

Harps And Unicorns

With a heart of heaven
And a soul of love
I feel I'm a party
To an angel above

Hearing harps and unicorns in the sea wind
Canter and chortle across the stony cliffs
Hearing the beat of the wing of a bee
Where the purple heather bell tolls and flings

Here do I breathe the air in a flower
That's in my love most-sweet every-hour
Here where the storm has a ribbon of light
Here will I lie like an armoured knight

Plashing eagle claws in the heart of love
Till there are no more birds of prey
Or ignoble Knights lances to bar my way
But only the one sweet dove of love
That heartache born of motherhood
That infant of my future blood

Oh—with a heart of heaven
And a soul of love—oh
With a soul of light—oh
Oh—with a heart of heaven
And a soul of light
I feel I'm a party
With a god-fearing angel tonight.
