Great Harischandra faced so many predicaments within a short time. Loss of kingdom, poverty, estrangement with wife, loss of son and finally a plight when he had to kill his beloved wife. Even Lord Ramachandra successor or Harischandra did not face so many difficulties in life.
One must pity Harichandran. Few men would be faced with the necessity of executing a beloved wife! This is, perhaps, carrying principle a bit too far. I am glad that the weapon turned into a garland. For me the most telling lines are: : Harichandran prayed God And Chandramathi her husband, As for the wife, her God Was her respected husband. Such selfless devotion is rare in any age.
