Happy Birthday Ekaterina
Birthday greetings to my lovely friend
Ekaterina Zelenova!
Elegant and graceful like a tender flower
So charming and caring,
Spreading her warmth of friendliness,
All around the glittering nature
And its sparkling manifestations.
Hailing from the resplendent city of Moscow
She carries herself as an alluring beauty,
I am yet to comprehend the colour of her eyes
Whether they are green like the shining waters of a lake,
Or whether they are blue like the brilliant skies.
All I am aware, is that they are mesmerising eyes,
Large, generous, kind and beautiful!
She has an amazing penchant for languages,
Apart from Russian - her mother tongue,
She learns Japanese and many Indian languages -
Like Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Urdu.
I am urging her to add Malayalam too,
The language of the people of Kerala -
As an added feather in her cap.
Ekaterina's love for performing arts, specially
Mohiniattam and other Indian classical dance forms
Is the reason we got to know each other
And bonded as good friends.
I always felt that we were connected in the previous births,
Perhaps, we danced together in ancient temples,
In praise of gods and goddesses!
Her love for animals is admirable.
She dotes on her pets -Gladys the Opossum!
Sesame the Opossum and Gilbert the Opossum!
She is an ardent animal lover
Dogs, bears, birds, Pandas,
Aquatic, terrestrial, aerial-you name it-
And, She loves them all!
I can go on and on,
About her multi-dimensional activities,
But here I must stop before the day is over,
To wish my dear friend,
Many, many happy returns of the day!

Great birthday wish for a friend you love and like. What made me to read this poem was name sounding very similar to what I saw in TV during 1984 Olympics... Ecaterina Szabo a Romanian artistic gymnast who won 20 Olympic, world and continental medals. Ecaterina won 3 gold medals in the 1984 Olympics.
