Halves Poem by Jeresi Katusime

Halves

You shred my millipede instinct
to curl up into an impregnable ball
Blow my fire into a building blaze.
I hide from the cataclysmic encounter you are.
Heap my thoughts into a memory
which opens up the duct of my right eye
Sending liquid emotion on its way.
In blocks of love am served
Half wife, half mother
Half lover, half friend
Half me, half you.

Even you sometimes stare
Like a martyr begging for mercy
Up on that tree
And I write my heart out
But not really
Sacred bits of how I feel
About you
Are mine to nibble on
Silently
Those unspoken words spoken by your bell round eyes
I tuck inside my spirit
Even when you stare
I feel like a girl
Being scorched by invisible fires
This is how you make me feel
