Hail, The Robot Vacuum Poem by narayana aghalaya

Hail, The Robot Vacuum

the ubiquitous house maid
a headache, even if well paid
does less work and bunks too
her blackmail - deserves our boos-
goes on and on, better if less said

for harassed family - a silver lining
brains of world's Einsteins, are draining
to show the door to housemaids
with gadgets for dummies, laid
on market shelves, leaving.one pining

one goes gaga on the robot vacuum
which cleans and mops floors -don't swoon-
all by itself, as per program
weighing just three kilograms
even if one goes to neighbour's, say, to croon

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
In India, the house maid is a ubiquitous member of the household. They work in several houses, carrying out routine chores such as sweeping and mopping floors, washing clothes by hand, cutting vegetables, washing kitchen utensils... and generally helping the lady of the house. They are paid a mutually agreed amount. The arrangement is informal. It is generally not satisfactory.

The recent introduction of many household gadgets with lot of inbuilt intelligence- the automatic clothes washing machine, dishwasher, vacuum cleaners, ... and so on, have reduced the dependence on the house maid. The latest gadget is the robot vacuum which is fully automatic and cleans and mops the floors silently and very efficiently, and automatically. Such gadgets are great boons to the harassed housewife.

ubiquitous - found everywhere
to croon- to sing or hum
