Guru 15 - The Rishi Munis Or The Seers Of India Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Guru 15 - The Rishi Munis Or The Seers Of India

Rating: 5.0

During my study of Philosophy of Yoga
In the University of Mumbai
I remember my teachers saying;
" Leave your mental baggage,
Along with your slippers,
Outside the class, before you enter in."

In beginning, I did not understand.
How could I leave my mental baggage outside?
As days went by, slowly and steadily,
I grasped the meaning.
I have to enter the class like a child,
Innocent and thirsting for knowledge.

If you are a spiritual aspirant,
In quest of the eternal Truth;
You cannot enter with your head full
With preconceived notions and ideas.
You have to shed all your fixed habits, defects
And be a complete zero without an ego.

The main reason being that
You have to make space
In your head and your heart,
For a vast amount of learning and knowledge
Bestowed and bequeathed
By the Saints and Seers of India.

The ancient sages were the greatest teachers,
They were the purest souls,
With hearts like a pure pink Lotus,
Who lived in the forests of India.
They left behind a treasure house of knowledge,
A colossal heritage of spiritual learning,
A legacy that cannot be erased by sands of time.

Theses Sages with words like pure white pearls,
Sublime and tranquil like beautiful Swans,
Have taught the wisdom of ‘Sanatana Dharma'-
‘The Law of living a righteous life'
And of ‘Vasudaiva Kutumbakam' - The entire human race
To live together with love and peace like One big family.

Part - 2 can acquire eternal Truth only when he puts off his mental baggage. The ancient sages were the treasure houses of knowledge and were good teachers who were imparting spiritual knowledge.Their Law of living a righteous life' ‘Vasudaiva Kutumbakam' - The entire human race to live together with love and peace like a big family is most valuable value for human race. A beautiful poem is hauntingly presented. Thanks for sharing.

You have to shed all your fixed habits, defects And be a complete zero without an ego.... //....Our sages had the purest of hearts and souls and were a repository of deep spiritual knowledge. They lived a life of austerity. Likewise, the aspirant or the student were fit to learn when they were free from any preconceived notions and ideas (mental baggage) . India has a long history of remarkable Gurus and their equally notable disciples. Thanks, Geeta ji, for this great series.

Hi, Geeta! I’m taking time to visit PH friends, and this is the poem I’m starting with. It was true of me I had to leave my preconceived notions. My prejudices were upended at the start, but over time the good things taught me and modeled by my parents were reincorporated into my understanding. -Glen

" Leave your mental baggage, Along with your slippers, Outside the class, before you enter in." ... Again the same what I said for 'The Tree'. Is human mind help or hindrance? I think it is both. It depends, how you choose to use it.
