Swami Vivekananda discusses the importance of Guru
In his book -‘Religion of Love'.
For intellectual development we can read books
But for spiritual development we need a Guru.
The Soul from which spiritual development
Is triggered off and activated through impulse
Is the Guru, the Teacher!
"That Soul from which this impulse comes
Is called the Guru, the teacher;
And the soul to which the impulse is conveyed
Is called the disciple, the student.
In order to convey this impulse, in the first place,
The soul from which it comes must possess
The power of transmitting it, as it were,
To another, and in the second place,
The object to which it is transmitted
Must be fit to receive it.
The seed must be a living seed,
And the field must be readily ploughed,
And when both these conditions are fulfilled,
A wonderful growth of religion takes place."
Here Swami Vivekananda is speaking about
The real teachers and the real students,
With no lack on either side.
A real teacher must not merely be knowledgeable,
But must know the spirit of the Scriptures,
A Guru must be selfless, sinless and pure.
On the other hand, a worthy student is
One with faith, humility, respect, veneration
And service towards the teacher.
Only then, a loving bond is created,
Only then, the light of wisdom glows brightly.
Beautiful poem. These Gurus are rare and true disciples are even more rare. Vivekanand and his Guru were one such pair.
Nice tribute for swami Vivekananda mam, enjoyed reading.10p
It may not be out of place to quote a few related ideas of Swami Vivekananda in this context: " He (the Guru) is the channel through which the spiritual current flows to us, the link which joins us to the whole spiritual world.... all Gurus are fragments and radiations of God, the Universal Guru" .
Thoughts of Swami Vivekananda about a Guru have been explained quite beautifully through this poem. I would like to quote a few lines from the poem which speak volumes about who should be a Guru. Thanks, Geeta ji: A real teacher must not merely be knowledgeable, But must know the spirit of the Scriptures, A Guru must be selfless, sinless and pure.
Only then, the light of wisdom grows brightly: around your writing a spiritual power emanates- you are training all those who read you into spiritual consciousness of a greater level; thank you!

I would like to translate this poem
For intellectual development of intellectual power this is necessary to revive the beauty of inner life and love. Swami Vivekananda has rightly narrated the truth in his wok. From Guru, soul receives the impulse and this is beautifully felt well. An interesting poem is well penned. This is a great ode poem of curse....10
