Green Light Poem by Dashaun Rashod Snipes

Green Light

Rating: 2.0

Green light, standing tall and bright
Guiding cars through the endless night
Red and yellow, patiently wait
For their moment to illuminate
Amidst the chaos of the city streets
Stands a light with a special feat
It represents the choices we make
And the chances we're willing to take
As I sit here in my car
Thinking of you, my heart ajar
Two months of love, now just a memory
A love that could have been, but never meant to be
You were my green light, my signal to go
But you turned red, without letting me know
And now I'm stuck, waiting at the light
Hoping for a chance to make things right
But you have the power, to change the flow
With the flick of a switch, you can let me go
I'm stuck at the green light, while you have the key
To move on and leave me behind, carefree
So go ahead, turn right at the red
Leave me here, with these feelings unsaid
I'll take the hint, and let you be
For I can't force someone to love me
With a heavy heart and tears in my eyes
I'll accept the fact, that our love has died
And as the traffic light turns green
I'll drive away, letting go of this dream
Green light, a symbol of hope and new starts
But also a reminder, of broken hearts
I'll move on, and find love anew
For the red light is behind me, and the green light is you.
