Gratitude Of Life Poem by Bharati Nayak

Gratitude
Wow! ! What a blessed life I have
God is great that I have everything I prayed for
My heart is full with gratitude to Almighty
Who gave me such good parents
Who raised me with so much love and care!
They provided me with the right education, healthy food and
Congenial environment enabling me to wade through life's fair!

I am grateful to my siblings and cousins
Whose companionship is so full of fun and merriment
Though occasionally we fight, but at the end we shake our hands
Hugging each other, we forget the bitterness.
These small fights may be required
To assert ourselves on life's big stage.

When I turn around,
I see our pet dog John
Playing with him is so much fun
He is part of our family,
He guards our house most faithfully.

I remember our cows once we used to own
Because of them we had plenty of milk, cheese and curd
And delicious milk based culinary in our house
Though because of space restraint, we had to let them go
But, I am grateful for what they have given to us.

When we were small, we had a pet parrot
Who was very dear to us
She used to chatter and follow our tongues.
She loved our mother most.
Though we provided her a cage
She was free to come out on her own.
We had named her 'Mithu'
I am grateful for such delightful days
in companionship with her in my childhood.

My father was a plant lover
He used to build lovely gardens around our house
Where ever he moves because of his transferable job
I am so grateful to him, because he taught us to love nature.

I am grateful to butterflies, birds and bees who throng to our garden
I am grateful to the flowers and fruits the trees are laden
I bow to Almighty who has endowed me such bounties and a home like heaven!
