Grass Is Green, Yet Silence Prevails Poem by Mohammad Younus

Grass Is Green, Yet Silence Prevails

In the heart of the jungle, beneath the ancient canopy, a donkey turned to a tiger with defiance in its eyes and said,
"The grass is blue."

The tiger, noble and composed, responded gently,
"No, my friend, the grass is green. The earth's truth lies before us."

Yet the donkey, unmoved, brayed louder,
"No, it is blue, it must be blue! "

Their disagreement grew, spilling into the tranquil forest like a storm. They decided to seek judgment, traveling together to the throne of the lion, King of the Jungle.

As they approached the clearing, the donkey, full of zeal, cried out,
"Your Majesty, isn't it true that the grass is blue? "

The lion, serene and wise, gazed down and declared,
"Indeed, the grass is blue."

With jubilance, the donkey leaped and pranced,
"See! The king has spoken! The grass is blue! "

Then, turning to the lion, the donkey demanded,
"And punish this tiger, for he dares to contradict me and disturb my peace."

The lion, regal in his calm, decreed,
"The tiger shall be punished with five years of silence."

The donkey, satisfied, trotted away, chanting with delight,
"The grass is blue! The grass is blue! "

The tiger, unbowed but curious, addressed the lion,
"Your Majesty, why do you punish me, when we both know the grass is green? "

The lion's golden eyes softened as he replied,
"Brave tiger, the truth of the grass is not in question. Its greenness is evident to all who see. But your punishment lies not in your claim,
it lies in your folly—wasting precious breath to argue with one who cannot see beyond their own illusions.

Why do you let a fool's stubbornness steal your peace? Why do you, so wise and noble, burden me with what is beneath you?

Know this: the loud cries of ignorance are not worthy of a measured response.
Silence is the armor of the intelligent, for it shields peace and preserves dignity.
Let fools dance in their illusions; let truth remain unshaken.

For when ignorance screams, wisdom whispers. And in stillness, there is strength."

And so the tiger, chastened and silent, walked away, guarding his peace like a treasure. The jungle hummed with its eternal truth, the grass green beneath the sun's gaze, undisturbed by the braying of donkeys.
