Gracious Lord Poem by Mystic Qalandar

Gracious Lord

Gracious Lord!
By the breadth of Your mercy I am upheld,
by the light of Your wisdom I am sustained.
"Your mercy encompasses all things, "
and never was I left without the spirit of life.
You give beyond my asking,
bestow beyond my deserving—
for You declare:
"If you count the favors of Allah,
you cannot number them."

Gracious Lord!
Never have You withheld Your guidance,
never has Your counsel failed.
When I wandered the wilderness of my nafs,
You breathed mercy into my lungs;
Your water was love upon my lips,
Your remembrance a song within my soul.
"You are nearer to me than my jugular vein, "
and in that nearness I found refuge.

Gracious Lord!
Cleanse the canvas of my being,
wash away the stains of folly and pride.
For I have marred the work of Your hand,
creased the beauty You shaped in perfect form—
"You fashioned mankind in the best of molds."
Yet I, like a child—careless, blind—
forgot the Artist whose gaze beholds all.

Gracious Lord!
You bind my wounds when I break my soul,
though I am the cause of my sorrow.
Ashamed of my guilt and fault,
still I do not tremble with despair before You.
For You have said:
"Despair not of My mercy—
indeed, Allah forgives all sins."
So I rest in Your boundless grace,
cling to Your holy names—Rahman, Raheem—
certain You are the fountain of every soul,
the One who calls:
"Call upon Me, I will answer you."
