Goodbye To Niam Poem by Christian Muller

Goodbye To Niam

It was a time ago that I was swept
Across the sea to reach a misty strand.
Which led to this undying land where I have kept
Myself these countless years. Oh greenful land
That has contained these endless days.
Such blessed paradise. This garden fair.
Behind the walls of white that kept the fray
Of ancient seas away. What had I care
For mortal lands, for bitter folk and field?
I've wholly felt the idle shepherd's joy
Of endless sun kissed downs. And beasts not coy
To rest with me beneath the sinking shield
Of shade, that from some fruitful tree was cast.
But now my love I must set sail and raise my mast.
