Goodbye Ed And Marie Poem by Ray Hansell

Goodbye Ed And Marie

Their love has been
So very strong
Somehow someway
Their love never went wrong

Their hope for the future
Was seen in their eyes
The love they shared
Was never a disguise

They've been together
For sixty-five years
Their life full of laughter
Sometimes a few tears

All of the things in life
That they have lived through
The strength that they shared
Could be matched by few

An undying love
Together they shared
Always together
Never looking sad

They lived for each other
That's not in doubt
Together through life they learned
What each other was all about

They'd been my neighbors
Since I was a small boy
I know in my childhood years
It was them I'd always annoy

They always put up with me
Never saying a stern word
That's why I'm so sad
With the news that I just heard

I saw their son at their house today
With tears in his eyes he said, they passed away
I just stood there frozen in time
Not even knowing what I could say

I turned away from him
Than, I headed for my home
Trying to understand
Why suddenly, I felt all alone

I walked into my house
Than, I sat in my chair
Thinking and wondering to myself
Did they even know I cared?
