Good Friday - A Journey Of Love And Sanctity Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Good Friday - A Journey Of Love And Sanctity

No one could save him,
not even he himself
from the crucifixion
for men themselves and their masters
had chosen him to die
when he was innocent,
when he was a life-giver,
when he was a healer,
he had healed the sick,
he had brought the dead to life
he had even revived the sight of the blind,
he had calmed storms and walked on waters,
he had multiplied the bread and wine,
he had fed millions;
he had forgiven the sinners
who was he? Jesus - born to live on this earth
amidst men and tend to their sufferings.

By prayers and preaching,
by enlightening them, by inspiring them
by asking them to change their pathway
if on the road of avarice and evilness had they treaded,
he invoked them to revert their wrongs and be good,
he preached to them to love one another;
he talked by parables,
he could never stop himself from his willingness
to help mankind in any way.

But days kept approaching and death kept nearing,
searching for him,
herefrained from listening to the devil,
he fasted for forty days,
he prayed, he knew the end was finally coming;
he had not chosen his death
but the kings had sentenced him to die
when he had no wealth, no riches
when he had no castles, no palaces,
it was only that they felt intimidated by His presence;
was that a just reason to sentence him to death?

They made him walk uphill that mountain called Calvary,
where crucifixion awaited to put an end to his life,
so many watched with agony his agony;
they put a crown of thorns around his head,
they made him drink vinegar,
they even pierced him with an arrow
besides nailing him to the cross;
how could they do this to Him
when 'love for humanity' was his only duty;
could those soldiers and kings forgive themselves
for their indecisiveness and cruelty?
Yet Jesus rose from the tomb and in heaven ascended
for blessed are those souls which exist
by piousness and divinity.
