Golgotha Poem by Ayomikun Akinwunmi

Golgotha

Golgotha, a place where earth and heaven did collide.
A field of barren rock, where shadows hide.
A stage of brutal scene, where human malice held its sway
And innocence, in its kingly form, was stripped, mocked and cast away.

Upon that rise, a cross stood
A brutal tree against the blue
Bearing the weight of all my flaws,
A sacrifice, so dread and true.

Yet in that suffering was a seed of hope that death could not restrain.
In my savior's death life took root, a promise that would surely grow.
The taunts and the vacant stares of those who could not understand that in that broken-bleeding form, redemption walked upon this surface.
This day many years ago at Golgotha, love and hatred met as one.

From my savior's pain and sorrow, grace reigns
And in his dying, I found life, and sin's dominion was erased.
