Golden Years Romance Poem by Roger Gerald Hicks

Golden Years Romance

She says she wants
a love affair
medium rare
he knods but craves
medium well, dreads
well-done.

They worry
everything
the rules no
one knows-
understands-
parameters
of Golden-Year
romance.

Poetry
they write;
rimes
approaching
teen angst.

He talks
a little dirty,
testing.

She hints
broadly
at every
opportunity

He eyes
Viagra ads
avidly.

She attempts
the smile
of the lady
in those
commercials.

He learns
names of all
new cars;
she learns names
of all
new starlets.

He avoids
BM talk;
she avoids
operation
discussions.

Lovers
must act
young.

The affair
unfolds slowly,
like
everything
else.
