God was 'The First' ~ He walked upon earth
Came down from heaven to survey its girth.
But darkness fell over water and land
until daylight came, at His command.
Doubt not my belief in the living God
For I have followed where His feet hath trod
And doubt not my belief in the Holy Cross
Or that Adam lay down with Eve his wife
Beneath the budding evergreen of life.
God was 'The First' ~ He walked upon earth
He came to survey the dawn of each birth,
Checked all the seed-bearing plants were growing
Checked that the rivers were gently flowing.
He heard the call of birdsong at dawn
And saw the azure blue sky of the morn.
Then Adam appeared from dust of the ground
And Adam rested with Eve, his dear wife
Beneath the budding evergreen of life.
