O wow! Magnificent, Richard. There's so much about fate and theft that defines Kerouc's life. I think it's more than legend; there's a story about him being destined for college football stardom. I think the tale is he broke his leg during his first game. This robbed him of a major athletics career, robbed him of 'love and compassion, ' turned him into an observer and college drop-out. Robbed, 'God stole... brotherly love, ' Kerouac's personal circumstances benefit literature.

M.J., I think it was his ankle. His coach that he was faking it. Ever since then, they had run-ins. Kerouac thought that it wasn't worth it, so he quit. He was destined for football stardom. But deep down, he knew that he was destined for literary fame. An excellent example of trusting one's intuition!
