God Saved Me....... Poem by Kishore Kumar Das

God Saved Me.......

The express train
reached Madurai
in a sunny afternoon
I got down
searching for tea
moving to and fro
more than seven minutes passed
till I discovered a tea-stall
just in front of my compartment
two paper cups of hot tea I bought
for me and wife
train started without any horn
while making payment
unnoticed by me
are you a passenger in this train?
the shop owner asked me:
I could not decipher
again he asked me the same
as I looked back
I saw the train moving
oh....what to do...
with hot tea cups in both my hands
I rushed to the train door
only to find
two persons chatting
and obstructing me!
forced to shout
I made room for my entry
I managed to board
not holding the door handle
but with two hot tea cups on both hands
despite spillage
I reached the destination
the next moment:
I realised the unsafe procedure
what would have happened
if I would have fallen down
my legs would have gone
along with me....
but that did not happen
GOD saved me.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Sometimes it happens, you lose your common sense when you are under stress. But GOD takes care of you.

Oh, my word. When you boarded that train holding onto your cups of tea instead of a rail- -I thought for sure you were going to fall! I wanted to holler at you to look out, look out. But God looked after you and you did not lose your legs or your arms or your head [well, okay, I guess it could be argued you had already lost your head]. God reaches out and saves us- our job on earth is not done yet. I like the way you wrote a story in verse form- this story fit well into this format. Good work!
