God Hides His Mercy In The Waves Of Water Poem by Orin MSH

God Hides His Mercy In The Waves Of Water

God hides His Mercy in the waves of water
Steered through the bleak;
That breaks the weather's Heart
Our ancient Navigator
As we are struck by the stark shapes of flowers
Our dreams are rent alike by Death or Winter.

God shrouds His Grace under whale-lapping Seas
Helmed through the wind; that cracks the ground apart
Turns ours to dust
Until all nerves are knocked bare in the dark
By time-told truth, mouthing belabored Art.

The vigor and the light that lit the world
Shudders through cracks and chains the trembling hills
And twines our rooted hair
With such ignominies and lies that reel
Through double-crossing straits; the tided hell

Dead cascades leap from glum-plumed clouds
Our lips are nimbus spooled on lover's bout
The yarn of age camels through a needle's eye
Our lids un-scaled
These mellowed grit sprung from the skies
Where rain dank bellies its mercies on us
In the deluge, drifting from waves to waves
And wind to wind until we hit the doldrums
Charybdis still unquenched and the sirens hum

Who knows what truth may lie, to trust
What God has made from a heaven of our souls
And winds His blessings all around the void.

Though we are dumb to rival the rose's petals
Red in its make of velvet-scarlet sheen
And duller still to thaw the frigid winter
And draw the embers from a dying sun.
God mouths his clemencies through the lips of prophets
When all was lost of favour and profit.
Concealing his shadows where two dreamers sleep
The dreamless weep, their agonies wound deep.

Though we are mute thus, voiceless, speak the Truth
How from the worms we turn to things of Youth
And from this springtime becomes spent and dies
Up ahead in the frost this rose-wreathed body lies.
