Global Hunger Index Poem by narayana aghalaya

Global Hunger Index

a matter of shame
when childrendie.of hunger
all pretexts are lame
rank, hundred two, spells danger
wake up call can't be stronger

to poor kids -clean meal-
in millions, we.don't give
and their fates we seal
we want bullet trains to drive
to proclaim, we have arrived

Neros look elsewhere
as malnourished children die
parents give blank stares
child welfare -this blatant lie-
is universal, who buys?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
India ranks 102 out of 117 countries, today.
This is quite dismal.
It means a vast majority of our children are poorly fed, undernourished and have stunted growth.
Child mortality rates are high in India.
We have to blame the parents as they are negligent.
The main culprit is the Govenment machinery, whose priorities are skewed. Do we need bullet trains?
In 2010, rank was 95/117.
Our SAARC neighbours-Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh- have better ranks.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Valsa George 07 November 2019

In recent times, India suffers from escalating poverty. Children are undernourished and many die of hunger. On one side there is extravagance, on the other, there is stark poverty and want. Indeed it is a shame that in world ranking of poverty levels, India's position has gone up to such shocking levels. The survey is indeed an eye opener! So well presented.
