Gilding The Lily Poem by Helen Crutchett

Gilding The Lily

Oh, bite your velvety lips Victorian girl
To give your sweet lips a rosy curl

Forbidden is makeup in this strait-laced era
Mama would faint at your sight in the mirror

Maybe just a teensy-weensy dab of colour
On your cheeks to cause a blush

Just pinch them once or twice
That would look really nice

I am sure this would entice
The most fervent of suitors

To react most courteously
With courting in mind!
