These beautiful poem suggests to me that the attainment of true knowledge and enlightenment requires a form of higher madness, beyond the cruder from of madness, and the colloquial way of describing madness as being BESIDE oneself strikes me as quite accurate: you have to step outside and beyond your limiting small I to get there.
