Égalité
It seems to me
that le célibataire is the unmarried boy,
la célibataire is the unwed girl,
and célibataire is unhitched.
There's égalité in that.
Le marié is the married boy;
la marie is the married girl;
marié is hitched.
Unless la marié is the married girl,
it seems to me
there's no égalité in that.
(Too, all three
could be marie.)
