Friends Come; Those Amiable Creatures Poem by james watkin

Friends Come; Those Amiable Creatures

Friends come; those amiable creatures;
But as offerings, smug-found.
Like bow-tied fawn, or pony, proceeds
Then to follow us around!

Boys or girls, with what stamps their needs
For such high jinks and horseplay
Are we entrusted. While pledged to
Never set loose; turn away.

That which on our doorstep was first left
To reach out, as it were, for
At the end of a day's free roaming
Will draw breath there as before.
