The sense of sanctuary and innocence come through strongly in contrast to the intimidation and restless changeability of the tainted world of 'progress'. The change of atmosphere is generated clearly and effectively, and there is space enough in this - in terms of meaning - for the reader to inser themselves and find a haven in its conclusion. The furniture of the early sections is of course claustrophobic and thereby enhances the concluding sensation of sanctuary. Fine writing exhibiting considerable potential. jim
