Frayed Nakedness Poem by Denis Mair

Frayed Nakedness

Rating: 5.0

(in reply to Shakira Nandini's poem 'Crafting My Existence'*)
............ ...

It is your talent to cloak yourself in your own atmosphere.

She who faces lifelong nakedness yet crafts a flowing robe is truly able to sew expansively.

Nakedness is a garment that comes in spring-like and autumnal colors. I hope your seasons change gracefully.

The garment of words in which our collective thoughts convene is also reclaimed by stitching.

Even a ragtag garment of words, when stitched with care, can bring people's thoughts to a purer place.

People who care about culture are always running hither and yon, stitching wherever the cloth scraps need to be joined, because the patchwork is forever fraying.

The fraying of the garment of culture is our shared nakedness.

Note: *You can read Shakira Nandini's poem here:

CRAFTING MY EXISTENCE
Speaking aloud, forging a path,
I am passing through, creating my own atmosphere.

Not even the stitching of a lifetime could cover me,
I remained bare, while crafting my own robe.

This is my spring, as I pass by,
Turning every dry tree into green.

Every branch continued to sway,
But the bird dried up while building its nest.

What more can happen, O Nandini, at the end of hardship?
I have shattered, while shaping my own mirror.
