Fragrance Of A Rose

The Rose and the Word

'The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.' (Isaiah 40: 8)

A beautiful rose—its soft petals, radiant colors, and fragrance that gently tickles my senses. I hold it against my cheek and marvel at the delicate creation of God, a perfect reflection of His goodness. In these moments, I'm reminded of the peace and joy that come from being near Him. This is the feeling I experience when I think of the Father's hand upon my life, His presence dwelling within me, and the extravagant grace He extends to me daily.

Yet, I know that in recent times, I've felt far from the fragrance of the flower. There have been seasons of dryness and longing, when life seemed to lose its luster. Still, even in these barren moments, I can close my eyes and return to those memories of holding roses, inhaling their sweetness, and feeling the warmth of God's love surround me.

Flowers, in all their beauty, eventually lose their petals, their colors fade, and they are cast aside as they wither. Yet, their memories linger. A dried petal, crushed between my fingers, still carries a faint trace of fragrance—enough to rekindle joy and remind me of the beauty it once held. This is how our faith should be—like the fragrance of the rose, even when the bloom is gone. In those times when life seems to strip us bare, we can still breathe in the lingering fragrance of God's undying love, keeping our hearts attuned to His whispers.

Our relationship with the Creator should be much like our relationship with the rose. We are called to cherish Him not only in the moments of fullness and beauty but also in the moments of loss and longing. We should thirst after Him, yearning for His presence, and allow our hearts to beat in rhythm with His promises. Like the Word of God—unchanging and eternal—His love remains constant, even as seasons change.

In the midst of life's challenges, let us hold tightly to the fragrance of His grace, knowing that His promises are steadfast, His love never fails, and His Word endures forever.
