Found Poem Concerning John Berryman's Death Poem by Shane Markie

Found Poem Concerning John Berryman's Death

When John Berryman's family
settled in Tampa, Florida
his father committed suicide

In 1926. Berryman's family
relocated to N.Y.C. where
John enrolls at Columbia

University. At only twenty-
six, he achieved infamy.
An award winning poet,

his marriage falls apart
in 1953. Barryman's success
did not end his

increasing depression. Berryman wins
the National Book Award
with the Pulitzer Prize

in 1964. His book
'The Dream Songs' was
his hallmark literary achievement.

John Berryman commits suicide
same as his father;
despondent, he jumps headlong

from a bridge in
Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1972.
He was fifty-eight.
