For Myrna Poem by June FeirCruz

For Myrna

I could remember just like yesterday
Warm summer days of singing songs
Patiently teaching me the chords to play
You had the patience of a saint
An angel in disguise.

I was in such awe of you: alabaster skin, long black wavy hair
Legs that won't quit, a quiet elegance that you possess.
My beautiful cousin, taking me under her wings.
Teaching me the ways of the city life.
Manila, here I come
With Myrna, as my guiding light - they don't stand a chance.

Thank you, Myrna - for your legacy to me: Teaching me how to play the guitar - a talent I still possess. A talent a lot of my friends are proud of me and jealous of - I may have the talent, but you had the patience to teach me and I owe it all to you. You have battled breast cancer for over 21 years. We hope that you are in a better place. We miss you dearly - and may you rest in peace and that you don't hurt anymore.
