For My Best Friend Poem by Annalee Somerville

For My Best Friend

Rating: 5.0

You have been,
the place my breath learned to rest,
the warm weight of now,
when the world felt too much.

You came without asking,
stayed without leaving,
and taught me that love does not need words to be real.

In the long nights,
you lay beside my sorrow
as if it were nothing to fear.
In the ordinary days,
you made life feel enough.

They may never understand,
how deeply a heart can be held,
by fur and breath and steady presence,
But I do. I always will.

If time were kinder,
I would ask for more of it.
If love could bargain,
I would give anything.

But love does not bargain...
it stays.
So I stay with you now,
the way you stayed with me.
Slow. Faithful. Here.

You are my best friend, my beautiful boy.
And whatever comes next,
you will feel my love around you
like a quiet sky.
