For It Be Winter Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

For It Be Winter

The waters freeze
The waters freeze
For it be Winter
Though just begun:
Yet
It has come forth hard
From its first day:
The heart throbs
Slow and sad
And asks:
‘If the first day of Winter
Be so harsh
Then what remains to come
And hoar
The balance of the days? '
