To me, this poem has the feel of a requiem and a national battle cry. It's very evocative. I like the subtle rhyme scheme and the use of different images to compare and contrast- the desert, sand, rain, river.

The way of presentation of this poem is so touching and impressive. This poem reveals your love towards your country, Haiti and to her people as they have suffered tragic misery. The last two lines show the deepness of your love. A great write.10

You are a 'peoples' poet'. So you couldn't remain silent when the Haitian people were struck by a tragedy. Appreciate your empathetic mind and eyes and pen, Howard!

Your poetry has such an impact on the reader that its unbelievable. This poem is full of empathy. Great expression of pain for someone's sufferings. You have the ability to put yourself in another's place and feel their pain. That's what makes a true writer, to negate oneself.

Heart beating with love and leaving heartprints for many to see. The pain so vivid in this short beauty yet one can feel the emergency needed to help these beautiful people, our sisters and brothers in Haiti.....

We, Haitians, cry for Haiti every day. We bleed for this country. Unfortunately, Haitians are not really united, and they do not function in unison. L' Union fait la force or United in strength is their emblem, ironically the Haitian People are too divided.

So moving and touching from a poet with a soft heart and a gifted pen. Splendid poem. You should send this to all the Hatians in Hati and around the world!

It is always interesting to see a poet engaging with recent events, although with limited success as the language fails to convey any sincerity. In this poem however the excellent command of words tackles the devastation engendered by the tragedy and the subsequent ambivalence of feelings amidst the aftermath.
