i'm assuming you are targeting some particular action which was never taken, for whatever reason. bet our lives on eternity makes me think death came before action was taken, OR the action has something to do with a belief in eternity. so you see, some readers, at least me, are left wondering, OR come up with an interpretation which may not be what you had in mind; and you may not mind that. you might even welcome readers to put their own story into your poem. i kind of like to be lead by the hand/spoon fed usually. - - - - - - - - - - - - i like the rhyming. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - let me guess what this is about: NOT deciding to believe in God? NOT buckling up each time in a car? NOT planting the trees we now wish we could look at? NOT reading all of the poems of Elena Plotkin available on PoemHunter? NOT brushing teeth each night and stopping the one liter per day Pepsi habit? NOT stopping smoking? NOT telling your parents you love them? NOT asking your parents what life was like for them when they were kids? NOT getting a college degree? NOT learning to play a musical instrument? NOT saving for retirement? bri :) am i close! ? thanks for sharing. it was fun trying to come up with my own story!
though i still can't pinpoint what you are getting at here, i STILL like the poem! bri :) OOPS! i see a typo/screw-up in my earlier comment: lead which should be led. i know i've had 'trouble' with those two words before! :)
