Fluent Gibberish Wernicke's Poem by Kimberly Burnham

Fluent Gibberish Wernicke's

Is it good the writer askes
wernicke's area engaged
same side as Broca's
Wernicke's area on the left
temporal lobe charges forward understanding
allows us to read what we have written
is it good we ask ourselves
will anyone want to read it we say
does it make sense

Wernicke's area understands whether what is on the page
matches that image we have in our head
brand new garden gloves and a handful of flowers
did we describe them well with the words we have
the key to revisions
and understanding what we have created

Damage to Wernicke's area
produces speech that sounds fluent
to a non-English speaker
but the flow of words is made up
not of English vocabulary
a kind of fluent gibberish
