You have done a great job with the extended and sustained metaphor of fire. For people who have lived only in urban environments let me assure them that the natural cycle that you so vividly describe is accurate. Duiring and for a time after a fire the area seems devastated. Howver, the burned over sections are soon full of life. With the overpowering canopy of trees gone that once blocked out the sunlight; with the thick brush gone- other plants have an opportunity to grow. Animals are attracted to the area to graze on the new growth. The hope of a new life cycle with nature running it's course. This is until man clear cuts and paves over the land.
