Finding Joy Poem by John Burns

Finding Joy

In a world that's a whirlwind, complex and loud,
Where ambitions like skyscrapers pierce through the cloud,
We search for fulfillment in glamour and gold,
Yet the secret to happiness is simpler, so I'm told.

It's the sunbeam that dances on morning's first dew,
Or the comforting aroma of a freshly-brewed brew.
It's a smile from a stranger, as you pass on the street,
Or the rustling leaves, in autumn's retreat.

It's the giggles of children, unburdened and free,
Or the cresting of waves in a limitless sea.
It's the humblest of meals, shared with love and with care,
Or the soft whispered "goodnight, " in the night's quiet air.

It's the call of a friend, just to ask how you are,
Or the sighting of Venus, when you wished upon a star.
It's the turning of pages in a well-worn old book,
Or the warmth in the eyes that give you that look.

For the joy that we seek in possessions and fame,
Is eclipsed by life's simplicities, never the same.
So let's cherish these moments, as through life we roam,
For in simple things, happiness finds its true home.
