Fill The Blank. Poem by Driss Ezzireg

Fill The Blank.

Fill in the blanks, they say.
My blanks are so deep and wild
They cannot be measured in one full stride.
They need ice to cool them down,
They're a burnt out house lost its pride.
They're my long lasting past in a gown
Staring down at me with scrutinizing frown.
Fill in the blanks, they say.
My blanks are so hued in gray
I need all the colors of the rainbow
In case a desire urges me follow
The steps of the flaring flamingo
And color my life in rose, white and gay.
Fill in the blanks, they say.
My blanks are so smeared with grease
So thick, so heavy on my shrunken body
I need a barrowful of good will and study
To make it as light and soft as a breeze
And earn the smell of coconut trees.
Fill in the blanks, they say.
My blanks are here to stay,
They'll never be swept away.
