This a delightful evocation of the ancient pagan Mediterranean world. I think it's the scene that follows the end of Mallarme's luminous AFTERNOON OF A FAUN. I mean that literally: his faun is very close to a drunken sleep at the end. And we get a similar confusion of tenses, of desires and actions, of impulsive behavior and thoughtful assessment. And I love the last lines which give us a vista: perhaps the gods' view of the drama of this hyperactive and frustrated creature who CAN'T GET NO SATISFACTION (courtesy of The Rolling Stones!)
