he panted heavily
muscles twitching in his naked body
running frenzied, without looking back,
he shouted, "He is after me.... my life"

Madness seems to be contagious as covid, fear and uncertainty make people do insane things and then there are those on a verge of a breakdown whose actions speak of desperate fear. An extremely well crafted work Valsa, with delicate care for the subject.
Thank you so much Kevin! What you have stated in your comment is exactly the mental disposition of most of the people these days. Along with the fast spread of the pandemic, fear also is conquering more and more people and many lose their sanity of mind.
Cases on severe mental disorder have been on the rise. The thoughts and emotions of those afflicted have been so impaired that contact is lost with reality. This great poem has taken us to the world of this unfortunate people. Beautifully crafted and well executed write. To my Poem List.
Rose Marie....! I am at a loss for words to thank you enough! Your comments are so beautiful and equally delighting. On reading your comment each time I feel that I am a 'great' poet...! What a refreshing experience to trap oneself in such a colorful bubble, though it might break anytime. Thank you dear poet friend!
The great Poetess had created a picture and evoked great emotions and at the same time conveying a meaningful message to humanity about this abnormal thinking and perception.
Excellent write ! A one of a kind presentation of a person who is afflicted by a severe mental disorder. I loved how this poem has been crafted and portrayed. A reader is like seeing a movie. So detailed and vividly imprinted in the mind.
an Assailant....? corona virus....? his own phantom...? - fact of the fearful psyche! Oh! Still, I do not know about the exact nCoV-19 and its original source! But sometimes I doubt myself that I'm hypnotized by this word (Corona Virus) via physician-scientist! - to cut this hypnotizing mentality now I practice to spend my life without a face mask, sanitizer, watching TV the world mortality rate of this virus..
Mahtab, if you are not going out and spend your whole time before the TV, there is no need to wear a mask or use sanitizers....! But watching the TV and seeing the death rate through Corona escalating everyday, you can develop neurotic problems...! So be careful....! Just pulling your leg...! Thank you for your comment!
This is a poignant poem that portrays a man full of fear of the world and its people, streaks across a public road. I feel extremely sad for such people who are as innocent as children. What they need is understanding and compassion. But the world looks at them with contempt, making a mockery of the whole situation. A brilliant poem so beautifully flowing - a story that evokes strong sentiments......10
Yes, so true Geeta, this man deserves a lot of sympathy! As you have put, 'what they need is understanding and compassion'! Thanks a lot for your empathetic response....
The man has inbuilt fears in his psyche. Perhaps he is trying to run away from that fear, being unaware, that there is no safe haven when the fear takes its root in the psyche.
Yes, when fear grips a man beyond endurance, he is likely to respond to fear in strange, unimaginable ways. Thank you Khairul for your understanding of the poem and the comment!
When heavily panted streaker ran on the road due to his mental disorder with fear saying " He is after me.... my life" / a rip roaring cry....! " many people said in many ways. One who said..so drunk, other said, a crack, / an orgy etc. When an old man suggested that streaker needed help and took him to an asylum then dissensions got stopped. Such is the present picture of society. You have so astutely delineated this poem which is most touching. Full vote.
Thanks a lot Kumaramani sir. When something happens, it is natural for people to react in different ways. Some saw it with sympathy and understanding while others saw him as a miscreant!
Honestly we are glad to have a good poet such as you here, really you are respecting the poetry by writing the good ones. thanks again
This is a unique masterpiece, made out of the daily life events, but the theme, imagery, technique, and the idea are so wonderful, this is a type of short story written in the form of a poem; leaving a big space for readers to interpret its mystery, symbols, and characters differently according to their knowledge, I congratulate you for this amazing insight style, it worth reading time after time with a big 10 and into the treasure chest as well..
Soran.... thank you so much for your highly analytical comment and appreciation. You have gone into the very spirit of the poem. I have no words to thank you for your time and your wonderful critique of the poem....! Also thanks for the high rating....!
he shouted, " He is after me.... my life" a rip roaring cry....!
he needs help, majority opined ‘nab this plague', the moral police quipped
an Assailant....? corona virus....? his own phantom...? two sane men staying, at a corner wondered. they had masks on their face " must be a health worker" ..! one of them said... " yes, the subtle nuances of an agonized mind" the other agreed!
Many incidents of streaking were reported in the state during a decade between 1960 and 1970. It was a challenge among students The streaker used to behave like a psychic. The case here may be a real psychosis. If so it is pathetic....10
Yes, this is a special case and his is an unnatural behavior born out of extreme tension and fear! Thank you Parameswaran for your nice response!
Just an ordinary streaker, like many many in the UK, I had seen them one by one they love to be seen and I dislike that. Such exhibisionists! As long as I have been residing in the NL, I saw ZERO streaker. Dear poetess, you got an excellent poem. True fascinating. My two thumbs up! A 10++ Full Score.
He is not an ordinary streaker, Sylvia. He is having neurotic problems under severe stress and fear. Many doctors and health workers are under extreme stress these days. We have to pity this man. He needs sympathy...! Thanks for the high rating of the poem!
Yes, you 're right! All of us are under great fear, in these days of the pandemic when it is claiming several lives around us. Thank you Kostas!
Nice one. He had lost his marbles. Needs to be immobilised and injected with tranquiliser. He will be fine if people care enough. He is still Gods child
Indeed, he has lost his marbles....! Most of the crowd could understand it while some others sneered and made fun of him. Thank you Deluke for reading my poem!
Yes fear is such that hide the reality and we go out of mind. Very true words.
