Faultsville Poem by Denis Mair

Faultsville

Rating: 5.0

'Faultsville---Still building':
That is our city's slogan.

In this site that Fate gave us,
we build down into and up out of the crack.

I will take Your structure to be my superstructure
and vice versa I hope,
through 'con-struction' and 'de-struction'.

Somewhere in a deep basement
you will find our neighborhood's warm, beating heart.

A steam shovel engine was repurposed
as the boiler for our heating system.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Thanks to Nico Vassilakis for this image from his Verbo/Visual series.... When I wrote the line about the steam shovel, I was thinking of a book my grandson Amon repeatedly asked me to read to him: MIKE MULLIGAN AND HIS STEAM SHOVEL by Virginia Burton.

Work under progress is what life is all about and your poem reminds me It remains like that till the end, never complete. Thoughtful poem.
